Have you ever heard anything about feng shui? I bet most of you haven’t. Feng shui is a Chinese system of aesthetic used to improve life by adding positive energy around the building where we occupy. Feng shui which literally means “wind and water” is said to be closely related to the use the laws of Heaven and Earth. The experts said the implementation of this practice will bring “luck” for the occupants of the buildings.
The role of feng shui
For interior decorating, Feng shui follower must respect the importance of orientating the structure of the house and the interaction with its surrounding environment which include the soil quality, vegetation and the circulation of air and water. All this is to avoid the negative energy that might appear due to bad structure of the house. To follow the feng shui practice, most of master of feng shui use “feng shui bagua” to determine the main principales to be respected.

These days feng shui is not only practiced by the Chinese, most western people are starting to implement this practice in which they believe can grow wealth and prosperity. Although, some say that today’s feng shui is not correctly implemented. Many fake feng shui experts these days receive huge sum of money just for giving a “feng shui advice” to westerners which violates the real value of feng shui for financial purposes.
However, some people still practice this believe in the positive manner. Decorating a house while respecting the real feng shui’s principles still can work well together. I will try to elaborate some of feng shui’s must do in order to let the positive energy flows properly and to let it integrates naturally with its surroundings:
The influence of color
In the Chinese believe, choosing the right feng shui colors as decoration is very important. Near the entry, it’s suggested to use red color for the front doors because red signify good luck. For other options, yellow and purple can also be a good choice because yellow and purple represent auspicious elements. Green brings different ambiance to the room, green is known for its freshness, peace and growth. Try to avoid dark colors that can create bad energy.
Plants & Fish
In feng shui, the symbol of wealth is represented by the elements of wood. Thus, having living vegetations/plants is suggested. Silk plant is allowed but not the dried plants because they symbolize death and illness. Moreover, putting blue wallpaper or carpets can be a good idea because it signifies water that will feed the plant to grow.
Another “holy” creature that the Chinese people believe can bring good luck is fish. Furthermore, aquarium where these fish live is believed can attract 5 major elements of feng shui:
- Water element
- Wood element (the plant In the aquarium)
- Metal element (the structure of the aquarium)
- Earth element (the small rocks/gravel in the bottom of the aquarium)
- Fire element (red, orange and gold color of the fish living in the aquarium. The lighting of the aquarium serve also as a symbol of fire)
The water element signify a good energy for having a good career.
Lighting and furniture
Fire element can also be implanted by having a good lighting. Therefore having a floor lamps or candles are a good choice for symbolizing fame and reputation
Feng shui bed room tips
Related to relationship and romance, we need to start to think about making some space in your bedroom in assure good vibe that can influence your relationship with your partners. Color your room with lively colors such as pink that signify love. A part from the colors, use oval mirror instead of the square ones, put as much as photos of you and your partners in strategic area of the room is also important to remind both of you how wonderful your love is and how many good things you’ve been through together. Window or any kind of alternative that allow us to have a view ouside will definately give better space and it’s a good way to reduce stress coming from outside that can effect the relation with our partner.
The essence of pair is also essential to create a good vibe in the room. Try to match items such as pair of candlesticks or two flowers. It would definitely bring a good couple ambiance in the room. Last but not least, try to put hang decorations that inspire both of you to attract and connect like poetry, artwork and beautiful paintwork will do the job.

For those who already have children, adding metal elements is very essential. Decorate your house with metallic or iron such as wind chimes or fan ceiling would be a good idea. Mixing the wall paper of your children’s room with white, metal or other earthly colors would give a good tone. Children element is closely related to creativity area and helpful people, therefore if you don’t have any children decorating your working room with the same ambiance/elements will give the same effects
